Affogato

Half iced coffee, half dessert, an affogato is the sassy upscale Italian cousin of a syrupy whipped cream frappuccino. A double shot of espresso doused over vanilla gelato, affogato literally means ‘drowned’ in Italian. The result is creamy, just sweet enough and with a walloping coffee kick - at the W we serve it both caffeinated and decaff, your choice. You can take-away a piece of this Italian tradition from our take-out hatch and sit with it in the shadow of the Thame memorial statue opposite. We use ice cream scoops from our friends at the Chiltern Ice Cream Company who we also profile this month.
