Q&A with Kim, our founder

SETTING UP THE WOODWORKS WAS A LABOUR OF LOVE. As a mum I wanted to show my son that it's never too late to follow your dreams. The W has fast become our second home and I've loved watching it become a hub that brings our like minded community together.

I KNEW FROM THE OUTSET THAT I WANTED TO KEEP IT SUSTAINABLE. In a world of such huge consumerism and waste, I try to run the shop more simply. That means sourcing the majority of the produce from local suppliers and being as environmentally friendly as we can. We use compostable takeout cups and cutlery, plus napkins and loo roll that don't involve chopping down trees. Our soap and washing up liquid are refillable and we aim to recycle the bulk of our waste.

MY DREAM WAS TO WORK WITH LIKE-MINDED FOODIES. Our brilliant artisan baker and cook Becky, whose sell-out cookies feature on the blog, helped me create a menu of fresh, fulfilling food, majoring on grains and goodness. It was important to us that everyone felt equally at home here, whether they were vegan, gluten-free or all-round foodie. We care about every plateful and make it all from scratch, right down to your ketchup and compote.

ABOVE ALL, I WANTED TO TREAD MORE LIGHTLY. My son's a constant reminder that happiness isn't in possessions but in the environment we create. Because of him, I want to run the shop in a more calm and careful way. I hope you enjoy your time here and find a moment's calm, too x
