Real berry ices to make with the kids

As well as creating this blog, local journalist Emily Kerrigan writes about family nutrition and getting kids eating the good stuff at her website and on Instagram.

Here she shares three super-easy strawberry ices for you to make at home with your little ones. You’ll up their five-a-day without any E-numbers, nasties, or added sugar and you can make them all British berry season-long for a constant freezer stash of goodness.

BERRY RIPPLE POPSICLES Whizz a handful of hulled fresh strawberries to a pulp in a food processor or blender. Scoop alternate spoonfuls into ice lolly moulds alongside spoonfuls of Greek yoghurt or good-quality vanilla ice cream. Freeze until solid then enjoy.

PURE FRUIT ICES You can also just whizz whole hulled strawberries in a food processor with a splash of water for a pure-fruit strawberry hit, as seen in the video. Try your own fruity variations of this with any fruit you have to hand - the lollies are a great way to use up the last of the fruit bowl, ensuring over-ripe fruit never goes to waste.

STRAWBERRY SORBET CONES
Keep hulled strawberries and peeled and sliced bananas in bags in your freezer. Take out a handful of each to blend together in a food processor. In less than a minute you have strawberry sorbet with no-added sugar and no nasties to scoop into a cone or bowl and enjoy. To make a strawberries and cream version of this, omit the banana and blend frozen hulled strawberries with a spoonful of mascarpone - instant creamy nice cream!
